— Smt. Rasmita Amin

Smt. Rasmita Amin is an Indian cultural dance instructor who has been serving South Central Pennsylvania for several decades. In 2006, she started Natyashala at a home studio in York, Pennsylvania. She started with eight students that quickly grew to over sixty.

She studied under the guidance of late Shree Kubernathji Tanjorker and is a graduate of Bharatnatyam from the M. S. University of Baroda’s Faculty of Performing Arts. After college, she studied traditional folk dances from the famous dancer and choreographer the late Miss Pratibha Pandit at Arya Kanya Maha Vidyalaya of Baroda.

Smt. Rasmita states that her greatest accomplishment in her career came in her younger years when she accompanied the late Mrs. Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister of India, to East Africa as a member of a cultural delegation. Smt. Rasmita had the honor of performing at the Prime Minister’s residence on a different occasion. In addition to this achievement, Rasmita has performed in Bombay (Mumbai) and New Delhi for thousands of spectators, including Bollywood celebrities.

For over twenty years, Smt. Rasmita has been a big part of the HARI Temple in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where she taught Bharatnatyam and folk dances to the youth members of the temple. She has also performed, participated, and choreographed several events for organizations such as AIACPA, York, Lancaster, Harrisburg community organizations, the International House, IBANJ and fundraising event for The York County Medical Foundation. In addition, Smt. Rasmita has judged three FOGANA (The Federation of Gujarati Associations of North America) competitions over the years.

Smt. Rasmita also serves as a certified yoga instructor in the area. She is a trained and certified yoga teacher with over 500 hrs from Evolution Power Yoga and My Vinyasa Practise. Smt. Rasmita currently teaches Bharatnatyam, Folk Dances and Yoga to her Natyashala students in York-Lancaster area. As of 2022, 15 students have completed Bharat Natyam Arangetram under her guidance. Smt. Rasmita continues to serve the Indian community in any way she can, most notably through productions performed by the students of Natyashala at the community events and Biennial Dance shows.
